Ruth Minetree
04/22/09 21:49
I
have a prayer request for my dear friend Ruth
Minetree. Ruth is Tom Minetree's younger sister
and she is currently at John Hopkins Unviversity
Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Tom drove her there
on Monday. Below is a description of her
current situation. She will be having surgery
to remove the tumor either Friday or Monday.
The Dr's have scared her to death and we need
to pray that the tumor is easily removed and that it
is not as dire a situation as they have indicated to
her (Glioma is not a good thing). We also need
prayer for her only child, Olivia, who lost her
father to cancer only 2 years ago.
Susan Beckett
Ruth is a student at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and has been commuting to Baltimore from Miami periodically for classes. Her beautiful and outstanding nineteen-year-old daughter, Olivia, is a student at University of Chicago. As many of you know, days before Ruth, was scheduled to relocate to Lima, Peru for an internship, she experienced some dramatic vision disturbances that mimicked a kind of migrane. She decided to fly to Alabama to be with family while she underwent some testing to determine the cause of her symptoms.
On Tuesday, Ruth had an MRI at Hellen Keller Hospital to check for any abnormalities of the brain that might be the cause of her symptoms. To our surprise, the MRI revealed a 2.5 cm by 2.3 cm tumor in her occipital lobe. The differential diagnosis was Glioma vs. Meningioma.

Urgent Prayer request from Missy!

We got here (Paducah)
about 1:30 this morning. Saw Dewayne, got a couple of
hours sleep and then saw him off to surgery at around
6:45. We just got a call from the operating room that
they have now put him on the by-pass machine. It is
going to be around a 3-5 hour surgery. He ended up
having one artery COMPLETELY blocked, three that was
a little over 3/4 blocked and one that was about 1/2.
The dr. was real surprized that he has not had any
chest pains. He said sometimes patients with diabetes
don't have all the warning signs like others do.
Please pray for him. He was still in shock this
morning. I will keep you updated.
This is from last night.
Please pray for my brother that lives in Kentucky. I just got a call from his wife that said the dr. is calling the family in because he went to have a heart cath done today. They stopped the procedure and they are doing open heart surgery at 6:00 a.m. They want the family to come in because he has 95% blockage in 5 areas. I am headed there as soon as my niece gets here. Please pray for my safety and for Dewayne as he goes through this surgery. He is 41 years old and has diabetes. Kind of scary, that is me too!
P.S. He is the one that had a urethra transplant last month during the snow in Paducah. Thanks!!!
Please pass the word and pray for him!!!!!!

Lilly Messenger

Please
add Lilly Messenger to your prayer list. She
was my 8 year old granddaughter's best friend in
Kindergarten. They go to different schools
now, but still keep in touch. We are
greatly concerned and want all of our friends and
family to pray for them. She had a tumor removed
at Children's in B'ham on March 11th. The
following is what they learned this week.
Thank you! Martha Miller
Dear Friends,
Here is a summary of the weeks events in regards to Lilly's health issues.
Thursday the 9th Lilly had an appointment with Dr. Walsh (The Hematology/Oncology doctor in Birmingham) and they did a bone scan, skull x-ray and lab work, urinalysis.
They found another tumor in the same spot as the first one, and also they found a tumor on her spine in the lumbar region but they didn't find anything else and all lab work was good.
We have an appointment at Flower's Hospital (her e in Dothan) to have an MRI done one her spine so they can get a better idea of how large that tumor is.
We have another appointment on Thursday the 16th in Birmingham with Dr. Walsh to discuss the MRI and also to get started on Chemo. We have been told we will have a Chemo nurse, and a social worker that will be available to us if we need assistance or have any questions.
We don't know any details yet about how the Chemo will be given, how long it will take, etc., etc. We should know all that on Thursday before they start it.
We have decided to stay with Birmingham Children's Hospital. It can take several months to get accepted to St. Judes, they do experimental procedures, and we can't start any other treatment until we are accepted there, if we tried that. BCH said that they have only had a few amount of applicants accepted out several hundred to St. Judes and we don't want to wait. The Shriner's Hospitals only deal with orthopedics and burns. After expressing our concerns to BCH, they have set our mind at ease.
I don't really know what else to say, except to please keep Lilly in your thoughts and prayers and I will send out another email after we are better informed on Thursday.
Love to all,
Dan, Tori, Lilly & Ginny

Please
remember my father Walter Clyde Holder in your
prayers. We have been in the hospital for almost two
weeks and he is very weak. A feeding tube was
inserted into his stomach
yesterday.

UPDATE: 04/17/2009
I just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and let them know that my father was able to be moved late Tuesday to J.W. Sommers for rehab. I would like to ask that everyone keep him and my mother on their prayer list as they both deal with changes in their lives. They have been married 63 years and this is difficult for both of them.
Many thanks!

many of you know, our youngest son David has had
stomach problems for most of his young life.
Recently, we have taken him to a pediatric
gastroenterologist in Huntsville. They first
tried some medicines, but now they are going to do a
colonoscopy. Please pray that the colonoscopy
on Wednesday morning at 7:30 am at Huntsville
Hospital will go well and the doctor will find what
is going on.
