Dennis Burfield
07/31/07 07:50
I ran into Dennis
Burfield at the Post Office yesterday and noticed he
was dragging along rather slowly. He said he was
"puny" (if you don't know what that means, ask
someone who grew up in the south). I told him I would
ask the prayer chain to lift him up in prayer.
Thanks!

Elijah (Eli) Reed
07/31/07 07:35
Please
lift up this precious little boy-he is having open
heart surgery Tuesday at Egleston Hospital in
Atlanta. His mom Rebecca, is from Florence. This web
site will take you to a blog that tells his
incredible story and the miracle of
his birth and miracles since his birth in March. www.elisheart.com
This is from his parents:
The time is here. Little Eli is going in Tuesday, July 31st for his open heart surgery at Egleston here in Atlanta. We want to thank everyone for your calls and emails, but mostly for your countless prayers. If possible, we would be honored and appreciate you putting Eli on your church prayer list. This Sunday, our church elders at NorthPoint Community church will be praying over him. We ask that you continue to lift him up.
To make it easier to update everyone, we have created a blog for him. For updated surgery info, photos of the last 4 months of our family and more, please go to www.elisheart.com and feel free to comment etc. Thank you.
God Bless,
Rusty and Rebecca Reed
Thank you!

Paige and children
07/29/07 22:10
Please
lift Paige and the children up in your prayers over
the next couple of weeks. When Bailey and Parker got
home from their visitation with Derrick on Thursday,
Bailey had some unbelievable news for Paige. Derrick
has decided that it is time for Bailey and Parker to
meet his current mistress.
Two specific prayers would be that this meeting will never happen and that the children will not meet anyone until their parent's divorce is final.
We believe this type of lifestyle is wrong and should not be subjected to the children. Bailey is learning this is not right in God’s eyes. Please keep them in your up most thoughts and prayers. To God be the Glory, Dru

07/27/07 17:45
I
just found out that Tyler Blake was in a serious
accident yesterday. Tyler’s dad, Steve, works
in one of our Decatur branches. Steve is a
member of the Emmaus community. I found that
out when I saw one of the Shoals Cluster crosses on
his desk.
Steve’s son, Tyler, was in a one vehicle car accident yesterday morning about 2:45 am. He was on his way to work and the police believe that he fell asleep and ran off the road. The vehicle flipped several times and he was ejected from it. He is currently on a ventilator and has head trauma and is in Huntsville Hospital in NICU.
Tyler is still in the same condition as he was yesterday. His vitals have come up a little but not much.
Steve said that he feels the prayers that have been offered on their behalf.
Please keep Tyler and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks everyone,
Diana Hudson

Hello All,
Things are going fine here but we are not going to be driving around for a while. We heard that the protest is going to be indefinite again but we pray that it will be over by tomorrow. It is very quite in our neighborhood (which is a good thing). I walked out to the main road and found out why. I took the attached picture a couple of blocks from our house and by the boy’s school. Keep this matter in your prayers. I think the whole country is in protest today (I know that Lima and the south part is). Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We will keep you updated.
Blessings,

UPDATE:
Hello,
Hopefully this will be our last update on the strikes here in Arequipa. They declared a 48 hour truce starting at midnight Tuesday morning while the government officials were here for negotiations. But before then it got pretty ugly in some places. On the main road, coming into Arequipa from Lima, many buses and trucks were vandalized and looted at the blockade. An ambulance was pretty much destroyed as well while trying to transport two patients around the blockade. In Yura (the main road to Puno), 8 police officers were taken hostage, for a few hours, while trying to move rocks out of the road. You can read about our favorite story on our blog (the address is below). It is about a circus vehicle that was stopped at the blockade. Anyway, it seems that the strike is over for now. The people were very pleased with the outcome of the meeting with the government. The word on the street is that they are giving the government until August 6th to do what they promised or they will strike again. So it seems that we are back to normal, at least for a couple of weeks, unless the government doesn’t act. Thank you again for all your prayers. You all truly make a difference in the ministry to Southern Peru and to us. Serving together,
Michael Rains
Bro. Carl Long

Bro.
Carl went to see his doctor on 7/9 for a check up
following his surgery for prostate cancer. He is
waiting for the results of his PSA test. When he was
tested last it was less than 0.1. Please pray this
number has not risen. His doctor has recommended that
regardless of the results of the PSA that he undergo
a series of radiation treatments because of the
aggressiveness of the type of cancer he has and
because it had gone outside of the prostate. He and
Anita covet your prayers! He will also be having
surgery on 8/6 to repair a hernia which is related to
the extensive nature of his prostate surgery.
Thanks for your prayers!
Susan
UPDATE:
Jamey talked with Bro. Carl yesterday and he had received the results of his PSA test. Give God the Glory!!! It is "less than zero"! This is VERY good news! Thanks for your prayers.

Spence and Clara Newton

Spence (left) and Clara (right)
Joey Newton is one of my best and truest friends. We were in a reunion group together for years before I came to Florence and he went to Montgomery. Please remember these little newborns with us. Vic Watford
Many of you know my brother, Phil, a pastor in Germantown (Memphis) Tennessee. A week or so ago his daughter, Kelley Moore (and husband Adam) gave birth to twins, Spence and Clara. The twins were several weeks early but still weighed 4-9 and 4-12, respectively.
Spence soon became lethargic and the end result is a diagnosis of viral spinal meningitis. Though not generally as serious as the bacterial form, due to his premature birth this is potentially much more dangerous than it might otherwise have been. There is nothing temporal for which my family would covet your prayers more than this situation. Please pray that God
would heal Spence quickly, with no ill effects, and that his parents and others close to him would be greatly comforted. We certainly desire that God's Will be done, but pray and trust that His Will in this situation is to show Himself strong as His people come before Him in believing prayer.
Thank you for kneeling with us. I am sure that I have missed some in my own address book in my hurried attempt to get out this request. Please pass this along to any others you know who will pray. I'll let you know how God answers our prayers.
Joey
My sister-in-law, Karen, reported that Spence is moving around some and is trying to open his eyes. That is an improvement (thank you for praying). However, he is still not up to par. Karen’s concern is for Spence’s twin, Clara, who has a temperature and is becoming more listless and has less appetite. Of course, even though the two have been separated, there is a great danger that the common source may have attached Clara as well. Please add her to your petitions. Thanks again.
UPDATE: Subject: latest baby report
Friends:
Thank you so much for your prayers for my great-niece and great-nephew thus far! My brother, Phil, called a little while ago with the latest update on the twins. Spence was taken off the respirator this morning and maintained a good oxygen level on his on. Please continue to pray that his eating and activity/movements will soon be back to a normal level. Most of all I
would appreciate your prayers that there would be no lasting ill effects. In particular, nervous system damage is a possible result of meningitis. Clara is back to normal. Thankfully, the virus that hit her was never able to turn into meningitis as it had with Spence. In short, Praise the Lord! Thank you for your prayers, your concern and your faithfulness.

07/22/2007 UPDATE:
Thank you so much for your prayers! I told you several days ago that my new great niece, Clara, did not contract meningitis and got to come home (I’m not sure that I told you that part), but that Spence, my new great nephew, would be in the hospital another month (I confuse group emails with individual responses). Long story short, SPENCE IS HOME! He had an accelerated heart rate (due, I believe, to his early arrival, not the viral meningitis) and is taking medication for that, but he amazingly was sent home today (without even a heart monitor). Phil and his family (and I) greatly appreciate your prayers and acknowledge that God has done a good work in their lives.
He is able!

Hello all,
We come to you again asking for prayers of peace here in Southern Peru. They have a scheduled strike tomorrow (10th) and Wednesday (11th). We found out recently why they are having so many strikes lately. The president of Peru was elected this past year. He was president several years ago and the economy went down hill during his presidency. People had to stand in long lines for bread and milk and the cost of food went up. Many that had money before his presidency were left without much (and still do not have much). This year, his first in this presidency, the prices of things started going up again and the people are really scared that history will repeat itself. We asked why he was able to win the presidency again and they told us that it was because the other candidate was backed by Hugo Chavez. They did not want that kind of government. This is why tensions are high: the people want change. Pray that this will be dealt with in a civilized and peaceful manner. It is rumored that if the people are not satisfied with the response to the protests in the next couple of days then there will be a big one on July 23. They say that it will be as big as the one in 2001 if not bigger (this one caused many problems, was violent, and shut down the airport in Arequipa as well). We have some friends that were caught in that one and they said it wasn’t pleasant. Please keep this unrest on your hearts and in your prayers. We pray that this situation will provide us an opportunity to show the love and peace of God to many. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
