SPONSORSHIP

Prayerfully consider if you, as a sponsor, can fulfill your responsibilities to the Pilgrim and their family. Sponsorship is also a commitment of your prayers, time, energy and resources. Sponsorship means having or developing a relationship with someone you want to experience Emmaus first hand.

Responsibilities

  • Prayer
    • Begin praying as you consider sponsoring a Pilgrim. Sign up to be a part of the 72 hour Prayer Vigil.
    • Pray during the entire week-end. Pilgrims should specifically be bathed in prayer on Thursday night, morning quiet times and each Communion, Dying Moments (Saturday a.m.), Candlelight (Saturday p.m.) and Closing.
    • Continue to pray that your Pilgrim will return with the desire to serve.
    • PRAY FOR THE TEAM!!!

  • Time/Energy
    • Take time to talk with your Pilgrim and answer any questions. Fear of the unknown can create a HUGE barrier for a Pilgrim.
    • Remember Sunday afternoon (inching toward the end of a grueling 3 days) when you received your letters??? Make every effort to contact immediate family, close friends, co-workers and fellow church members to write letters. It is important to request from everyone, without making the assumption that someone should or should not write a letter.
    • Make every attempt to take your Pilgrim to camp on Thursday night. Once there, explain that you are there as their servant. Take their luggage to their room, put linens on beds, and see that they are left at camp on Thursday night feeling as comfortable as possible about the awesome week-end that lies ahead!
    • The week-end commitment should include continued prayer, traveling to candlelight, and keeping in contact with the pilgrim's family at home. This could include preparing a meal, babysitting, running errands or any other small technicality to make the household run more smoothly. Having an absent parent for the week-end can sometimes be an open door for Satan to walk right in!
    • Make plans to be a part of Closing. If this is not possible, assure the Pilgrim on Thursday night of who will be picking them up on Sunday. Secure a ride home prior to Thursday evening.
    • FOURTH DAY is important. Follow-up by calling not only your Pilgrim, but any others who were on the walk. TAKE (not invite or encourage) them to the next Cluster Meeting and encourage Reunion Groups. (See Ella Ferguson for further details.)

Thinking of Sponsoring a Pilgrim?????

Will you...

  1. Take off work and make trips to Sumatanga to carry and pick-up our Pilgrim and attend Candlelight? Bonus points for serving a meal while at camp.
  2. Take time to commission letters so that your Pilgrim is not handed an empty bag on Sunday afternoon? Or, worse yet, their name be called out at Community Gathering on Saturday night as the Pilgrim that STILL does not have any letters!!
  3. Spend time prior to the Walk reassuring and answering ?????
  4. Be there for the family back at home? More bonus points for preparing a meal.
  5. Follow-up (i.e. Fourth Day, Cluster, Reunion Groups).
  6. PRAY???
