South Shore Trails

Land of the Calumet

Land of the Calumet ...  the peace pipe of the Potawatomie ... where bands of our Native Americans gathered, mostly in peace, and built far-ranging trails for  their quiet travels from village to village.  Years later, we still wander those trails in the company of friendly spirits.

South Shore Trails, formerly Calumet Citizens for Connecting Communities, serves the Calumet Region of Northwest Indiana and Northeast Illinois. This includes Lake, Porter, and La Porte counties in Indiana, and the southern suburbs of Cook county in Illinois.

South Shore Trails meets all the requirements and is registered as a 501(c)(3) organization.  During the year 2011 South Shore Trails was registered as Calumet Citizens for Connected Communities (C4) and any donations and membership fees can be exempted to the extent allowed by tax law.  From the beginning of the year 2012 and following, the organization is known as South Shore Trails.
