Announcements

P. Mike announced that 12 Rotarians will be attending the Dishes for Wishes fundraiser tonight. Signup for Raffle tickets for the fundraiser was circulated. $10/ticket, $2400 gift certificates from participating restaurants.

Ron reminded everyone about the May 1st Blood Drive. Please remember to bring your blood donor card or photo ID. You cannot donate with one of these 2 items. Ron is expecting a good turnout.

Ted announced he is holding a "Politically Incorrect But Enjoyable Event" June 20th. This will be a cigar night at Ted's Garage. Bring a friend. $20/person (Any profits will benefit Rotary Scholarships).

Pat shared a few riddles.

Henry has received a good response from ads in the newspaper advertising out "Pedals for Progress" collection. Only "Portable" sewing machines are being collected. He will be having a night at the barn soon.

Finemaster

Finemaster Bill fined P. Mike $4, Ted for the "sweetie" comment cost him $2. $1 from each accountant to celebrate Tax Day. Jerry received a $1 suggestion fine.

Program

PE Bill Dudley introduced today's guests, Elizabeth Sheridan, CEO and Melanie Pirollo, Director of Cancer Services at the SJ Healthcare System. A Public Relations video highlighting "Year in Review 2006" was shown. The video featured the new Wound Care Center, Fitness Connection & Mental Health Care Unit.
Melanie spoke about the partnership SJ Healthcare System has developed with Fox Chase Cancer Center. There are curently over 30 clinical trials being conducted where new drugs and treatments are being tested. Over 300 patients have participated in the program.
A Breast Cancer Bridge Program has been developed to help support patients. The new Scarpa Cancer Pavillion is a beautiful state of the art facility located at the SJ Healthcare Sytem.
Second opinions are encouraged where original the diagnosis is most often confirmed. Prevention Grants are used for programs to help with early detection for the under or uninsured for both men & women.
The emergency care unit is one of the busiest in the State and treats over 200 people per day. They are continually working on decreasing the wait time from triage to the admission process. This is a national problem and is monitored by using Patient Surveys.
