Flag Salute & Prayer


God Bless America, Flag Salute, Pledge of Allegiance and recitation of the 4 Way Test was led by Marty.
The opening prayer was led by Cornell.

Guests

Ken Riley visited from the Bridgeton Club. John Keleher visited from Mt. Ephraim Rotary. Cosmo Giovanizzi was the guest of Dave H. Jodi Hirata was the guest of Mike Loyle.
Our guest speaker, Jeff Bork along with Allen Samuels and John Kelecher from Elwyn visited us today.

Announcements

Bruce introduced today's guests.
PE Betsy announced that we sold 68 tickets to the Phillies Strike Out Hunger game being held next Wednesday. $476 comes back to the Rotary Foundation. 18 unmatched "Little" tickets were donated by club members. Great Job Rotarians!

Ted Lane circulated a signup sheet for the "Second Cigar Night" scheduled for October 3rd at Ted's Garage.

Cornell asked for Rotarians to support the Cumberland County Boy Scouts. They are sponsoring a "Salute to Families and Veterans on September 23, 5 pm, at St. Isadore's Church. Donations and baked goods are needed. The event benefits widows and orphans of Veterans and also helps inner city children join Boy Scouts.

Ed Duffy recently visited the Lancaster, PA area where he attended a Rotary Club sponsored craft show. Ed said the 29th annual event raised $50,000 for the local club, with 800 crafters and the entire community participating.

Bonnie thanked Gerry Dooley for helping out the Bar Association with one of their projects. Gerry is supplying dictionaries at greatly reduced rate that will be distributed to children as they go through the adoption process.

Finemaster

Substitute Finemaster, Norm Neill, came alive today fining Dave H. for his lengthy introduction, Loren for always selling something, Ken & Dave S. for notletting Carol do her job, Shaye for seeing her son, David, on TV, Mike $2/leg Marty & Carl for singing off key, Charles P. for switching seats and Cornell for the sermon. Wayne, George and Melanie received late fee fines.

Program

PE Betsy introduced our guest speaker, Jeff Bork. Jeff is from Elwyn, is a non-profit human services organization recognized nationally and internationally as experts in the education and care of individuals with special challenges and disadvantages. Founded in 1852 to care for children with mental retardation, today’s Elwyn is a leading provider of services for people with special needs of all ages. While many of our services are available at our original 400-acre site in Media, PA, Elwyn also supports programs in schools, community sites, workplaces, and individual homes in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and California.

As in 1852, today’s Elwyn is built on research, innovation, and caring. Theirexperienced, compassionate staff provides state-of-the-art residential services, programs in education, rehabilitation, vocational and employment services, and other supports for living for more than 12,000 children and adults every year. The goal is to help people with special needs maximize their potential and live happier, meaningful lives.
