The first part of our program was a classification talk by a new member.
PE Bill Dudley introduced Ron Barisano to give his classification talk.
Ron Grew up in Connecticut and majored in Radio and TV Journalism and Communications Theater. He was a member of a number of Rotary clubs including Haddonfield; Lewisburg, Pa; Williamsport, PA and Derby Shelton, CT. The second part of today’s program was a presentation on the activities of the Cumberland County 4-H.
Jeanette Rea-Keywood spoke about the Cumberland County 4-H Youth Development Program. Worldwide, 7 million youths are members of 4-H. There are 12,000 youth members in NJ. Cumberland County has one of the largest memberships in the state. 4-H stands for Head, Heart, Hands and Health. Originally oriented toward farm and agricultural pursuits, today fewer than 30% of members come from farming or related areas.
A 4-H student member, Jennifer Taylor, a 10th grade student from Millville Senior High School also spoke on the Citizen Washington program and her involvement with the organization. The Washington, D.C. trip, which is supported by our club, allows participants to study the meaning of citizenship within the focus of the nation’s capital. Jennifer is a member of the NJ State Horse Bowl Team. They will be competing in Kentucky to show their knowledge about horses in a format similar to Jeopardy.
