Program
Program speakers today were Dr. Tom McCann, Vineland High School Principal, Jim Smith, Cindy Peele and Ms. Vanucci, also from Vineland High. Victoria Druziako, Lisa Ngelli Cruz, Framary Delacruz & Abhjit Parmar, students from Vineland High School.
Dr. McCann spoke about the Senior Option program. There are approx. 250 students involved in the program. Students can achieve credits for volunteerism, college and working at approved places of employment. SJ Health Systems, WAWA, Shop RIte, Joe's Poultry and Trump Plaza are among some of the participating businesses. The program has helped increase the graduation rate and also helps with credits for those students having to work. There is also a dual credit program where a current student in her junior year, will complete 20 college credits upon graduating from high school. The program hopes to be able to offer enough credits where some students will complete an Associates Degree upon completing high school. VHS works closely with Cumberland County College offering courses that meet their requirements.
The program was developed with a wide cross section of staff members.
The VHS auto program was recently approved as a certified repairshop for Mercedes Benz which has greatly increased enrollment in the program.
Mr. Smith asked Rotarians to consider being part of the program by offering to mentor students to help earn business credits for volunteering and working in our community.
The program is for the Fast Track, Catch Up and Special Ed student; serving every type of student that wants to advance. .
Each of the VHS students introduced themselves. They are all very active in school activities and our community.
