Today’s Program

PE Bill gave the club a brief "Black History" moment. He then introduced our own, Cornell Brunson who was dressed in an African Ceremonial Garb worn by a Prince. Cornell gave a loud "Alleluia". He mentioned how the recent Rotary trip to Washington, DC was an awesome experience. Today's program was Vineland Rotary's first Black History presentation. Cornell decided to reserach our club Black History with Rotary Historians and Rotary International. He spoke with RI's Librarian, Robin who when asked about Rotary Black History replied with "Good Question"! She did manage to forward an article published in 1915 for the Birmington, Alabama Rotary Club who's charter stated an exclusion for "non-caucasions" joining Rotary. After speaking with Vineland historians, Cornell found out he is the 4th African American to join Vineland Rotary. He also researched why February was designated as "Black History" Month. It began as Black History week and changed to month in 1976. Seems like many political events have taken place during the month of February including the establishment of the NAACP, Abraham LIncoln's birthday, Right to Vote, US Senate Oath etc.
Cornell introduced his guest, Marilyn, who sang the very moving Black National Anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing".
