Announcements
President Mike Loyle introduced Sergeant-at-arms Bruce Middleton who recently returned. He had to take some time to find his notes. This later resulted in a fine.
Bruce announced the viewing for Carl Kirstein’s mother to be held Thursday at the Freitag Funeral Home in Bridgeton at 10 AM.
Betsy Frank was “happy” be at the meeting and thanked Rob Tola for the support of a $1,000 donation to the Duck Race from the Newfield Bank.
Betsy announced Alan Dickinson’s “Public Service Announcement” that the Dream Date Raffle will bring in $16,500 to the club if every member sells or buys the ten tickets for the event. This will garner nearly ½ of our charities budget for the year. If we do this, we “won’t have to listen to Betsy” for the rest of the year!
Keith Petrosky asked for members to join the Education Committee. All members are invited to become involved in the administration of our annual scholarships.
Ron McMahon said our next Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on the first Tuesday in May, the 8th. Ron will be away on vacation for two months and needs a volunteer to bring a CD player to the meeting so we can play a CD of Kate Smith singing “God Bless America” for our opening number.
Carol Captis asked who will be attending the Phantoms game on February 23rd. The event will allow us to take a bus and have “Littles” join us for an afternoon of fun. The Phantoms will be playing the Hershey Bears. Bears will be provided if you don’t bring one for your Little. Contact Carol if you have not signed up. The cost is only $20 per person.
Jay Parks asked members going to Washington, D.C. to take photos. Jay asked for CD-based photos for documentation for the club. Contact Jay if you have any questions on the picture format. Jay said he has CDs of Vineland Rotary activities available, and sold one to George during the meeting. He said he will sell CDs to “anyone at anytime”. And they are only $10!
Dave Schad announced the Valentines Day gala event at the Vineland Developmental Center on February 13th, from 6 to 8PM.
Dave also announced a Rod Stewart impersonator will be performing at Merighi’s on February 17th. A Rotary table is being formed. Contact Dave if you are planning on going.
Pat’s Joke of the day confused “hot momma” with “heart murmur”. A few smirks indicated that this was one of his more clever ones.
Finemaster
Bill fined two today for Happy News: Gus will be working in Vineland at the Electric Utility and John Wisda announced his 4th child is married. Jay Einstein’s cell phone conversation only cost him $3 because the phone did not ring in the meeting. P.E. Bill Dudley was not late to the meeting so everybody else was fined $1.
Today’s Program
Bill Dudley introduced Ken Dondero to talk about the club’s Membership Committee. “Membership is a prominent part of our club”, said Ken, and then explained why we have been one of the most successful Rotary clubs in District 7640 in maintaining membership. With 86 club members, we have inducted 11 new members since 1/2005 and have inducted 28 within the past 5 years. Marty Hoag sponsored 9 members himself.
Sponsors and new members were questioned why they sponsored and why they joined Rotary. Without a constant flow of new members, a club will die because of the normal turnover of members. We still have a number of Rotary Past Presidents who are members in our Club, and that is one reason we are so active. “Every member is a mentor to every other member”. Membership Breakfast Meetings are once a month at 7:15 at Larry’s II. Contact Ken Dondero if interested in becoming active on the Membership Committee.
