Announcements
Bruce announced that Rotary shirts are available, and we have them in stock.
Skipper Reyes is our newest member.
P. Mike presented an award to former Vineland Rotarian, Al Marsh, for being a Major Donor.
Abbey Bradway provided a short account of the resent GSE team visit and thanked Ron B. for his assistance and the host families, Shaye, Skipper,
Betsy and P. Mike. She cornered Jay into admitting that he was the person who produced the very nice color brochures at the tables today with photos and articles on each of the team from France. Nice job, Jay!
Betsy recently graduated from the Cumberland County Leadership Institute. She was sponsored by the club, and the program involved one learning day a week for a year, team assignments and interactions with other leadership candidates from the county. Mike asked if any members are interested in taking the time to become involved, to contact him for a possible sponsorship for the coming year.
Keith Petrosky announced next week’s program will be the Vineland Rotary Scholarship presentation. He asked all members to bring in their most recent issue of “The Rotarian” magazine to give to the scholars.
Finemaster
Bill Plick hit Mike and his dad $6 because it was one of his last chances before the year is out. Bill announced the “Bill Dudley Rule”, a new one of Bill’s that will result in a fine to any member arriving at a meeting after Bill Dudley.
Program Chair, Bill Dudley announced that Vineland Mayor Perry Barse will give us the state of the city on June 19th. There is no meeting on Tuesday, June 26th because we will have our installation dinner the following Thursday, June 28th at the Running Deer country club.
Betsy felt Pat’s joke couldn’t have been much worse (and from the groans, the club agreed) so Pat was the first to be fined. Mike Benson was fined for not winning the NJ State Lottery. George was fined for sitting inside his warm car while his wife and kids braved the weather at a soccer game. Remember the old men on the Muppet’s show? We found them at one of our tables today. Fines for all!
Program
Ken Dondero introduced Charles Loyle who inducted John “Tom” Barbour. Tom’s sponsor is Bonnie Laube. Tom is also an attorney.
Skipper Reyes gave her classification talk. She has taught in the Vineland school system since 1974. She was raised in Panama and lived in the Canal Zone. Her family is an international one, and she has relatives in Europe, Central America and Israel. She is involved in pre-school programs and has provided English-Spanish translations for a number of years for and said that there are a number of immigrants from Central America who speak Aztec and Mayan languages. Their children are their future, and they travel to the U.S. to have them educated and to learn English.
