Announcements

P. Mike welcomed the Waveland, Mississippi crew back from their week of service down south.
Bonnie Laube said 21 people attended and circulated a photo of the group in cleaner clothes. She said they had a good time and that the area is coming back but a lot of work still needs to be done in the back areas where there is little or no improvement to be seen. Some trailers are being refurbished but some of the work is held up waiting for federal grants. The residents do not have the resources to buy the materials they need so they must wait for the government. Churches and relief centers are distributing food. Many families have been separated by the storm and have still not found missing relatives. Bonnie thanked all who supported the team including Kevin who provided a limousine and spouses of Vineland Rotarians, Connie Kirstein, Vicky Plick and Eileen Duffy.
Rose thanked Abbey for being her sponsor. She also thanked Bonnie and presented a gift to her for hard work putting the team together for Waveland.

Tiny Tim Caroling will be held on Tuesday evening, December 12th this year. Maryanne Lods will host the group at her home. Bruce Middleton will chair the event. Don’t miss this fun

Pat provided a chuckle for us again today about a nosey neighbor.

Finemaster

Bill said today would be a “fine free day” in honor of the Katrina Team. He will likely make up for that next Tuesday!

Today’s Program

Today’s program featured Dr. Fred McAlpin III, a board certified Ortheopedic Surgeon. Fred’s discussion focused on problems with shoulders but also touched on fingers, knees and joints.

Fred described the anatomy of the shoulder and the ways we can visualize and treat symptoms, i.e., MRI, Cortisone shots, surgery, orthiscopic surgery, strengthening exercises and medications. He described the differences in the medications Celebrex, Dextra, Viox, Advil and Motrin. He addressed the side-effects of increased risk of heart attack and stroke linked to these medications.

He addressed questions from the audience including arthritis, joint replacement, secondary joint replacement and longevity of prostheses in the body. He explained the condition of trigger finger as well at the treatments available.
