Announcements
Welcome to our newest members, Gerry Dooley, Dave Hanrahan
P. Mike reminded every one the reason attendance today was light. We have 21 members in Waveland Mississippi.
A special thanks to Mike Benson on another terrific Vocational Service Award program. Great job Mike.
Ron Barisano, on behalf of the Membership Committee, ask us all to think of who we know that would benefit from joining our Rotary Club. Invite them to join us for lunch. If you’re uncomfortable asking, let Dave Schad know and he’ll send a letter of invitation out.
Kevin Burnhardt - Dream Date Raffle. Great and easy fundraiser for the club. Kevin is looking for gift/prize donations from members to sweeten the total prize. Plus he is looking for more ticket sponsors.
Kevin also said his dad Ed, is back home recuperating.
Jay Parks announced that his “Rotary In Review 2006” presentation will be moved to December 12th.
Pat P. offered his joke of the day...funny guy, that Pat.
Finemaster
Bill P. proved that he is a fearless fine master by fining guests also.
Program
Bill Dudley reminded all members to Vote today. Then introduced Jerry Dooley and Dave Hanrahan who presented their classification talks.
Gerry Dooley thanked Marty Hoag, his sponsor, for his persistence in inviting him to join the club, as well as the members for always making him fell welcome. Gerry also said he got a real good feeling from the dictionary distribution, his first Rotary project.
Jerry said he started in the corporate world spending up to 3-hours a day commuting. Then 32 years ago, after seeing an ad for a book store franchise, he decided to make a change and opened his store in Vineland. Gerry has three children, his youngest son works with him in the book store. He said his son has worked there since he was an embryo. Gerry said one of the ways they compete with the larger book stores is to look for and offer books from local authors, writers who are overlooked by the larger retailers. He said that if you ever have a less than satisfactory experience in his store please let him know, as with any merchant, don’t keep it to yourself, tell the owner. Gerry also said the future is leaning towards on-line shpping, but knows that customers like the personal touch they get from his store, and he will continue to be there for them.
Thanks, and welcome to the club Gerry.
Dave Hanrahan was our next presenter. Dave was a little cautious, after his earlier run-in with our finemaster.
Dave thanked Page Desiere for sponsoring him and the members for always welcoming him. Dave lives in Richwood, with his wife Crystal and five children ranging in age from 13 to 1 year old. He spends most of his spare time working on their 100 year old Victorian house.
Dave was raised in Gloucester, and received his bachelor in accounting. Decided he didn’t want to be an accountant and decided to go into banking. In 1990 he started working for “The Bank”. He has always enjoyed the banking industry and the people. Most recently Dave is working with a group of local Vineland business people to open a new bank to be named - Capital Bank of New Jersey. Dave and the 27 investors feel the time is right for a new “local” bank in the area. With all the recent mergers and consolidations, they feel their type of personal service will be what draw customers to them. They will be offering stock in the new bank December 1st 2006. They plan to open March 2007 in a temporary facility while the construction of their new bank on Main Road between Landis and Chestnut is being built.
