Pete Burg visited us from Orlando, FL Rotary Club. Rev. Joseph Donchez and wife Linda were the guests of the club. Paula Pitcher was the guest of Diana Caraballo. Welcome to newest members Gerry Dooley, Dave Hanrahan and Chalky Ottinger.

Announcements

Bruce announced that the Service Club Council Annual dinner will be held November 9th. Bruce represents Vineland Rotary at the monthly meetings. Please see Bruce for additional information.

Ken Dondero gave an update on the Membership Committee. There are several subcommittees formed. Gail is chairing the "Inactive Member Committee". Abbey will be handling "New Member Inductions". Ron Barisanno will be chairing the "First Tuesday Presentations". New Membership Directories are available on the front table and are also available online. If you have any changes, please get them to Gail as soon as possible. A few changes were received late and did not get updated in the latest directory.

Mike Benson reported on the District Vocational Dinner. Hugh McCaffrey received the award from the Rotary International President, Bill Boyd. He read a long list of accomplishments and community involvement. Congratulations Hugh on the receiving this well-deserved award. Carl received this honor last year.

Rev. Donchez thanked P. Mike for inviting him and his wife to today's lunch meeting.

Rob Tola reported that the Adopt-a-Road project was held this past Saturday. They had a small work crew but got the job done!

Carol Captis announced our "Halloween Blood Drive" will be held next week. Please sign up.

Dave Schad reminded members that our Katrina Mission Trip is scheduled for November 5th. Funds are needed to help defray the costs of shirts, 1 ticket, and $1400. is needed just for rental vans to be used for transportation. Please make your check payable to "Vineland Rotary Charities". They have received $1129. in donations to date. Please see Dave or Bonnie.

P. Mike introduced Charles "Dad" Loyle. Charles gave background information about Rotary and inducted new members. Sponsor, Paige Desiere, pinned new member Dave Hanrahan and sponsor, Glenn Kahley, pinned new member Charles "Chalky" Ottinger. Welcome Dave and Chalky!

PE Bill Dudley announced he has free Health Club passes from Dave Fixler, past speaker from South Jersey Center for Health & Fitness.

Bill introduced today's speaker, Jane Galetto, from Citizens United to Protect the Maurice River, a volunteer, nonprofit corporation dedicated to the preservation of the Maurice River watershed. Jane gave a slide presentation on the Osprey, sometimes called the "Fish hawk" their main source of food being fish.. 190 "clutches" or families, were banded so they can keep track of their age, sex and migration. Transmitters are also used. In 2004, there were 30 active nests with 64-71 eggs. 33 eggs survived with only 1 pair producing 3 chicks. Only 50% of osprey live through their first year. In August, they migrate to West Brazil to the Amazon.
