Finemaster

Bill said he only had a few fines to levy today and immediately fined P. Mike $6 in matter-of-fact fashion. With little flourish he fined about a half-dozen other members and retired smiling.
Becky Schad - Youth Exchange Program
Dave Schad introduced today’s speaker, his daughter, Becky Schad. Her presentation was “Rotary Youth Exchange: Czech Republic 2005-2006”

Becky provided a presentation including photos of the people she met and places she traveled during her Youth Exchange experience. She stayed in a village, Norosedly N. Nezarkou meaning “settlement on river”. She met youth from all over the US and many other countries. She visited Belgium, Slovakia, France, Cypress and Austria. She recounted her first Belgian waffle and had many humorous comments about her adventures. She carved green pumpkins and explained the American holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving to her hosts.

She went to the Czech Republic partly because she took two years of Latin in school. She said that two weeks is not enough time to learn a language. She said language was an obstacle. Becky said there are no women members in any Rotary clubs there. She said she really liked the students she met. She said they eat a lot of pork and not much beef. She refused to eat shark jello. She described the way they “fish” by draining the lake. She said they had snow from early fall until late spring. When asked, she said she would gladly go again.

Becky provided a very interesting and insightful travelogue and an excellent presentation on a very worthwhile Rotary youth program
