He continued and expanded the program, after seeing the huge positive change in life and living conditions for the recipients, now that they had a means to travel earn a living. The recent addition of portable and treadle sewing machines provides a means of earning a living for the recipients. Over 100,000 bikes have been provided to 3rd world countries since Dave started the program.

Finemaster

Finemaster Bill, as only he can do, managed to fine everyone at the meeting, with some poor (poorer) folks paying multiple fines.

Today’s Program

Program Chairman, PE Bill Dudley introduced Dave Fixler, from the Fitness Connection.
Dave spoke about exercise and nutrition, which he says go hand in hand in promoting a healthy lifestyle. A recent study found that less than 25% of Americans are considered physically active.

He pointed out that our habits are hard to change, so we should try to improve in these areas a little at a time. Start with small changes to either exercise or diet. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise. Strength exercises are important at any age. Strength levels start decreasing at age 30. Even people who are 90 years old can benefit from starting an exercise and strength training program.

Nutrition is as important as exercise. We should eat the right amounts of food at regular intervals during the day, to maintain energy level and metabolism. Dave described the 6 meals he eats every day, totaling about 3500 calories. His meals consist of all the good stuff we all know about, like whole grain cereals, fruits, almonds, salads, vegetables and fish.
