Marty was absent today so Sherry led our singing.
Dan gave the blessing.
Guests
David Parry was our guest from the Bridgeton Rotary Club. Dave is the Executive Director of the Southern NJ Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Dave is also the current President of the Bridgeton Rotary Club.
Mary Dooley was the guest of our own Gerry Dooley. Mary works “in a bookstore”.
Birthdays
Alan Dickinson and Henry Hansen both celebrated today, September 25th.
Announcements
PP Mike introduced Bruce Middleton as our Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms.
Joe Delgado asked for members to become involved in the dictionary project which will be starting in 4-5 weeks. The next committee meeting will be next Tuesday, 10/2 at 5-5:30 PM at Bill Jannerone’s office.
Joe also said he attended a “Field of Dreams” Challenger League-type game in Absecon last Saturday. He was accompanied by Lou T. and Gus and Linda Foster. The experience was very positive and we received a lot of information and help from the Field of Dreams organizers. The organization has 160 special players and receives help from many local organizations. The Fall season is well attended but Spring has nearly twice as many teams. Our club has a committee to provide organizational support to start a Challenger League here in Vineland. For more information or to get involved in the committee, see the committee chairperson, Joe Delgado.
Rob Tola announced the Adopt-a-Road sign-up for Saturday, 13/13. Participants will be meeting at Larry’s II at 8:30 AM.
Ted Lane announced the Cigar Night at the Garage Mahal, next Wednesday, 10/3.
We will have a special meeting the following week.
Instead of a luncheon meeting on Tuesday 10/9, we will have dinner and Night Golf at Eastlyn Golf Club.
Feel free to invite friends and business associates as this will be a fund raiser. Rain date will be 10/13.
Hugh McCaffrey announced the Vocational Assembly 10/8 in Atlantic City. Speakers will include our Rotary International President.
Dave Schad asked for additional sign-ups for the food pallet. Contact Dave Schad if you have not already signed-up to support this very worthy project.
Henry Hansen said he needs helpers for Saturday’s Pedals for Progress work session in his garage. Stop by even if only for an hour, between 9 -1 PM.
Finemaster
FM Bill fined President Bill $4 for starting the meeting 8 minutes late ($0.50 per minute).
Dave Schad had happy news, and announced the YMCA Presidents affair at the Savoy Inn. (See Dave or George for invitations).
Betsy’s picture was in the newspaper and landed her a $5 fine.
Bill was generous and did not fine Sherry for not giving him a banana for dessert at today’s luncheon. He said he has fined her enough recently.
Program
Program Chair, Betsy introduced Ted Stanko today’s speaker and our
District webmaster.
We have a new District web address: “rotary7640.org"
Ted gave a good lesson in e-mail etiquette. If you don’t want it on a billboard with your name on it, don’t send it. Exercise discretion and thought and bridle your emotions when composing on the web. Keep your communications short, to-the-point and professional. E-mail is a “transportable” medium. Everyone may see what you write. Empty your trash to free-up storage. Always name your attachments so your reader can trust that it was not attached by a hacker. Don’t open attachments, even if from a trusted friend, unless you can be sure it is legitimate.
A handout provided a nice outline of the suggestions. There were lots of questions and the meeting ended late as a result. Will this be a fine next week?
