Part 4 - SuperDisk
The next step was creating the floppy drive/hard drive bracket to support the SuperDisk and CD-RW drive. I wanted the CD-RW drive directly above the SuperDisk and I was going to use the existing floppy drive opening for the SuperDisk.

Modified drive bracket - back, side view.

Modified drive bracket - front, side view.

After removing the SuperDisk drive from its external USB case, I verified it could be installed where Apple's SuperDrive once resided. Unfortunately, I could not use the same mounting points and hardware because the slot opening did not match up with the SuperDisk loading slot. So, firstly, I cut several scrap pieces of 5/64" plastic sheet.

Then, I held the SuperDisk in place in the bracket, and added a piece of sheet plastic between the top of the SuperDisk and the underside of the CD-RW drive shelf.

Then, holding this entire assembly tightly together by hand, I installed it in the case and verified the loading slot lined up with the floppy drive slot in the case. Wedging two sheets of plastic in place (5/32") assured correct alignment with the case opening.

I then measured, marked, and drilled out the mounting holes on either side of the bracket. The floppy drive bracket is slightly wider than the SuperDisk, so I used cyanoacrylate adhesive to make suitably thick spacers from washers.

The last step to was to cut away the rear of the bracket to allow access to the IDE drive and power connectors. Everything was assembled and test fitted. I had to make some minor fore-aft adjustments to the mounting holes, but then everything looked good.

SuperDisk with extended eject button and LED header. I later ended up fitting a connector onto the eject button cable and a header to eject button switch for simplified installation.

(Yes, you can use an IDE SuperDisk with a Yosemite Power Macintosh. I used the Hard Disk SpeedTools driver from Intech USA.)

SuperDisk and CD-RW fitted in drive support.
Note the plastic spacers bending the top of the SuperDisk housing -- a little too thick, but doesn't hurt anything.
