News Flash:  First major event at Mingo Creek Park Observatory an overwhelming success!  The Boy Scouts Camporee Hosted approximately 130 campers.  While at the Camporee the Boy Scouts attended planetarium demonstations, observed through the 10 refractor and other telescopes set up on the grounds, sketched the moon and the motion of the BigDipper in several hours time spand and many other activities.  Pictures and descriptions of the event courtesy of AAAP member Al Paslow.

The mighty Planetarium Projector located at the Mingo Creek Observatory part of Amateur Astronomers of Pittsburgh, is in position to give 130 Boy Scouts a sky show demonstration. This event was held the weekend of April 15 & 16th 2005.

AAAP club member Joe Begandy uses the 10 inch Refracting telescope equipped with special filters to safely view the sun. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO THIS WITH YOUR TELESCOPE OR BINOCULARS !!! This telescope has a special set-up to do this. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT SPECIAL FILTERS YOU CAN BECOME BLIND INSTANTLEY!!!!!

Completed Observatory with it's two telescope rooms-The 10 Inch Refractor Room is located on the left in photo, and the 24 inch Ritchey-Cretien Room located on the right. (Ritchey telescope has been ordered)
