I arrived at
ceramics after years of
drawing and painting. No matter what kind of method I use to
make a particular piece whether it be wheel-thrown or off the wheel I'm
always thinking, "Where else could I go with this?" These tiles are part of that natural curiosity.
With these I use
the clay surface as a place to draw on.
One thing that interests me is patterns that overlap each other. Dripping glazes over the tile creates one pattern or layer, then drawing through the glazed areas adds another pattern. One pattern is maybe more natural, while the other is more designed and methodical. Both of them mesh in the same space. |
