OVERCOMING ADVERSITY
OVERCOMING ADVERSITY
The disabled have the advantage. We appreciate the small stuff because we have lost everything, or so we felt. Too bad you don't realize what you've got till it's gone. Even though I have the pace of an intoxicated snail and sound like Forrest Gump, I appreciate the small stuff. I enjoy going for long walks/limps, 'cause I can, after months in a wheelchair and wondering if I'd ever walk again. Even limping is pretty cool. I really enjoy some of the old "guy" stuff, like washing and waxing my car, almost as much as in my first life. I like having reserved parking via handicapped parking privileges. I like getting preferred seating at concerts and sporting events. I like women opening doors for me, crowds parting like the Red Sea when they see my cane. I like seeing my Social Security money while I can still see. I guess I like the new me.
