OVERCOMING ADVERSITY
OVERCOMING ADVERSITY
Last week while facilitating an inpatient support group at Methodist
hospital, I met two gentlemen who were Diabetic and lower leg amputees.
One of the guys said he had told his surgeon “If you need to cut any higher
than here you might as well cut my throat.”
I told him that while I haven't lost any limbs, I have been hemiplegic for
15 years, and 20 years ago, if they had said I would be unilaterally
paralyzed for long term, I would have been intimidated and terrified! But I
survived and now thrive. We can adapt as we are a resilient animal!
He thanked me for the encouragement, but I assured him it goes both ways as I
am inspired by your battle also.
