OVERCOMING ADVERSITY
OVERCOMING ADVERSITY
A man's success can be measured by the quality of his friendships. By this definition, I consider myself a success. I may not be able to make my bills but I'll compare my friends with anyone. Research shows us that the quality of our support systems will have a major impact on our recoveries. In my story, my spouse turned out not to be the ideal best friend. But when she bailed, my friends were all over it, to ensure I maintained my perspective. As one of Methodist Hospital's therapists once said, "You must have been a nice guy seeing how your friends rally around you." Yes, and thank God I was. It was my friends who saved my ass and I told them so. Maybe we should all tell our friends we love them and work at being a friend to yet another. Peace.
