I've always like Sciroccos ever since I remember sitting in front of a convenient store hangout when I was a little skate punk in HS and seeing one of these sweet 87/88 16v's pull up that was driven by a guy that went to my HS. I just remember seeing how stealth it looked and how it seemed ahead of its time. Maybe it was something to do with the similar looking Delorean  in Back to the Future??  I didn't even have a license yet and I could already see myself in one of these cars. While I purchased an 87 16v Jetta back in 1994 it had some pretty bad problems initially and was a big headache. But after getting the Jetta's issues fixed its was a very steady runner and  provided many drives up to the mountains to go snowboarding and hopefully many more to come. But it needs  a new tranny after 300K miles on the original Clutch. The Beast will live again!  So, after crusing my Jetta for 10  years I know a little about the 16v and really have grown to like it a lot after some 220k+ miles. I got my Scirocco in 2001 and had a hell of a time getting it running right due to bad oil leaks on the turbo system but it was so worth the effort. Now I know what a 16v in a lighter frame/body with forced induction can really do and it is exciting. One thing you'll notice about VW enthusiast - in particular Scirocco owners is we're rather obsessed with our passion for these older vehicles and how they enthrall us.
