Pre-USNA: Born 19 April 1953, Goldendale, WA. Eagle
Scout. 1971 graduate, Columbia River High School,
Vancouver, WA. Congressional appointment.
USNA: Started in 13th Company, moved to 25th for two
years, graduated from 35th. Sixth Battalion
sub-commander (Third set). Varsity athlete—cross
country, indoor and outdoor track; six N-Stars;
Heptagonal champion (3000m steeplechase), 1975. Glee
Club, two years. Sunday school teacher, three years.
Commanded YP during Second Class summer training.
Service selection—Surface Line.
Post-USNA: Summer TAD at USNA as PEP assistant and PE
instructor. Service schools and SWOS (Basic) en route to
Edward McDonnell (FF-1043). Served as First Lieutenant,
then CIC/EW/Intel Officer. Deployed to North Atlantic
and Med. Qualified SWO (1110) and recommended for
Department Head School. Programmer Training instructor
at Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic (FCTCL).
Requested, and selected for, change of designator to
Special Duty, Intelligence (1630). Soviet Navy analyst
and Mediterranean pre-deployment briefer—Fleet
Intelligence Center, Europe and Atlantic (FICEURLANT).
Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69)—CVIC Storage and Retrieval
Officer and Tactical Analysis Plot supervisor—deployed
twice to the Med. U.S. Naval Postgraduate
School—student, Space Systems Engineering. Naval
Intelligence Command—intelligence collection manager and
requirements officer. Intelligence Coordinator,
COMPHIBGRUONE/CTF-76. Space and Electronic Warfare C4I
Systems Engineer, Space and Naval Warfare Systems
Command (SPAWAR).
Post-Navy: “Beltway Bandit”—first as a Principal
Functional Applications Analyst and Principal Engineer
with PRC; currently as a Chief Systems Engineer with
SAIC in support of the Intelligence Community.
Alumni Association: Life member. Member, Greater
Washington Chapter. Class of ’75 offices held—president
(1996-2000), vice president (1990-1995), secretary
(1975-1985). Former ALINC (Alumni Leaders in National
Communication).
Personal: Married to Maggie (the former Margaret
Wilson of Laurel, MD) for almost 28 years, with four
children (Kyle—PITT ’00 and Ph.D. candidate at
University of Maryland; Jeff—American University ’02,
professional actor; Joanna—Elementary Education at Mount
St. Mary’s College to graduate in May ’03; Theresa—high
school sophomore).
Community: parish youth group leader, church music
and liturgy, Boy Scout leader, high school music
boosters president, PTSA member, school booster, former
youth coach (soccer, baseball, and softball).
Other memberships: TROA, NAAA, USNI, AFCEA, AOC,
American Legion, SAL, Knights of Columbus, NESA, Navy
Memorial Plank Owner.
