Here's a pic of the Turbo-Diesel's air intake bracket welded onto the body. I also installed the air intake baffle which is in front of the bracket behind the headlight. The Turbo-Diesel's intake draws from this cold-air chamber, which gets air from around the passenger headlight.
Another engine compartment shot... On the Turbo-Diesel the fuel filter is relocated from the passenger side shock tower to the center of the firewall to make clearance for the turbo and the air intake system. Here you can see I welded on the fuel filter bracket on the firewall - the shot is OK; the bracket is where the glare is. Also notice the power steering fluid reservoir in the lower-right corner. This also had a bracket which I welded on right behind the battery. I installed the power steering system prior to the Turbo-Diesel engine.
The reason for upgrading all the peripherals first was to keep the engine installed and the car running while doing all the work I could before going to the actual engine swap. That way when it came to swap engines it would be less down-time.
The Turbo-Diesel has an oversized radiator which I have pre-installed here with the normally aspirated diesel engine still in. The electric fan is also bigger diameter and has three fins instead of four. There is a special fan shroud to mount the fan. The fan is a two-speed model which has additional engine-compartment wiring.
