Yep, It's an old diesel allright! But the thing still ran VERY well considering it's mileage. It's going to a family friend and vanagon-owner who overheated his diesel engine. I gave him a good deal and parted with "old faithful." The tranny will be removed and mated with the Turbo-Diesel, and I'll practice my tune-ups on the engine before it leaves.

Here's a tip I'll pass on: when removing the transaxle from the engine, it's a good idea to rotate the engine on end as shown (a crane will be helpful) before separating the transmission. This will allow you to have more control when separating the transaxle, which will lessen the chance of bending the mainshaft during removal. ($$$)
