About HandiConeHello and thank you for visiting HandiCone.com. My name is Darrell. I became a quadriplegic in 1994 after having an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) accident. Since that time I have been driving a full size van for transportation. When parking, I try to look for handicap parking spaces with the really wide cross hatches. Unfortunately these are not always available. Then it happened. After returning to my parked van, another car was parked only 3 feet from the side of my van. I lowered the lift and tried to get in. In the process I left a huge scratch down the side of a brand new car. After my efforts, I still ended up waiting over 30 minutes for this fellow to return. This experience and many other similar stories lead me to invent the HandiCone. Since I started using HandiCone, I have not had to wait anymore. The side of my van always has enough space. I hope you will give HandiCone a try.
Anything can happen to anybody. In the last movie I did, "Above Suspicion," I played a paraplegic. I went to a rehab center and I worked with the people there so I could simulate being a paraplegic. And every day I would get in my car and drive away and go, "Thank God that's not me." I remember the smugness of that, as if I were privileged in a way. And seven months later, I was in this condition. The point is, we are all one great big family, and any one of us can get hurt at any moment... We should never walk by somebody who's in a wheelchair and be afraid of them or think of them as a stranger. It could be us - in fact, it is us. Christopher Reeve, Actor --- Cited in BITS & PIECES
