The 1st Story I recently received W.A.S RTTY Certificate # 352, Dated 09-Mar-01, with endorsements for 10 meters, 15 meters, 20 meters, 40 meters and 80 meters. I also have received 5B-WAS Certificate # 2760, Dated 01-Mar-01, using the same contacts and I consider it to be 5B-WAS-RTTY.. I wish to thank all those who gave me the Q's and the QSL cards for confirmations: I had been rather inactive for a number of years prior to October 1998 for one reason or another, antennas were down, rigs were sick, etc... I had begun RTTYing in 1973 with a model 19, TD, typing reperf, custom built TT/L-2 with scope and a home built UT-4B, Drake 4-Line twins and linear. I have been licensed since 1956 with the same call and have been active sporatically. Many contacts for the current period were make during RTTY contests and some were made on the 3905 Century Club RTTY Nets and several were make on schedules with willing RTTYers. Of the 250 cards used for the awards, only two were for Q's prior to 1999. One was for ND on 20 meters that I got when I was using the GreenKeys in 1978. Many thanks to all those who volunteered for schedules, the first of which was Shelby, K4WW in KY on 80 meters on 1 April 2000 and, followed by Bill, K2NJ in NJ on 80 Meters on 3 April 2000. I started checking into the 3905 Century Club Nets on 13 November 2000 and right away worked KB1DFE, Marc in NH on 40 meters, which gave me an incentive to work towards my 80 meter needs which were a large number of East Coast States and I worked Marc on 80 on November 19 on the 3905 CC 80 meter RTTY net. Many thanks to all the 3905 CCN members for their Q's. I worked W1VXV, Bob in ME, on schedule on 15 December 2000 on 80 meters. Worked WA1EHK, May, for 80 meter CT, during the OK-DX contest on 16 December 2000. I have worked May on all five bands and have used her QSLs confirmations for all five bands. Also worked Jeff, K1AM in RI, during the OK contest on 80 meters and W1ZT, George MA, on schedule on 80 just before the Contest. I have worked Jeff and George on all five bands, many thanks. I worked W1ZS, Burt in VT, on both 40 and 80 meters on 19 December 2000 on a schedule, I had worked him earlier on 2 December 2000, on ten meters during the TARA contest.. I picked up eleven needed states during RoundUp 2001. I had been unable to work the RoundUp in either 1999 or 2000 as I had my rig in the hospital both times. Shelby, K4WW and Eddie W6/GOAZT, produced NV on 15 and 10 meters during the RU. WØSD, ED, filled in SD on 4 of the bands, worked him on all 5 bands at RoundUp time. Got W7CT, JIM UT , on 80 and 15 during the RU and on 10 meters during a schedule later in the month to complete UT on all five bands. After RoundUp I still needed seven States on 80 (AL, AK, DE, FL, ND, SC, WY), one on 40 (ND), two on 15 (MT, ND), and four on ten (MT, ND, UT, WY). On 12 January, 2001, I was able to work W7IPB, Bob, in MT on a 15 meter schedule and K4HGX , Roy in SC, on schedule on 80 meters Made contact with N7XD, Terry in WY on 3905 CCN on 80 meters on 14 January 2001. I still needed AK on 80 and was looking forward to working several of them on 80 during RU but things didn't work out, too much noise in AK for several of those that I was looking for. Made a schedule with AL7BB, Bill on 80 and it worked out great on 14 January 2001. ND was needed on four bands and KØUD, Kevin, gave me ND on 40 and 80 on January 25, 2001 and 15 and 10 meters on 26 January 2001 both times on schedules. I heard Kevin on one band during RU but never could catch him as he was S&Ping. There were still four difficult contacts to complete the requirements: 80 meters with DE and FL and ten meters with MT and WY. All four were difficult and took several schedules to complete each one. The final two were #249 W7IPB, Bob, in Lakeside Montana on Ten meters 26 January 2001 and #250, WG7Y, Bob in Gillette, Wyoming on February 13, 2001. The two most difficult ones on 80 meters were with KE3ZZ, Layton in Laurel, Delaware on 15 January 2001, (I had worked Layton on schedules in December on 10 and 40 meters) and W4AWI, Raul in Maimi, Florida on 11 January 2001 (I tried several times to work Raul on 3905 CCN but they were unsuccessful). It's a long haul from near the Mouth of the Columbia River in Washington state to Maimi, Florida. All four of these fine gentlemen spent a number of hours trying to give me a contact for the award. Right after I worked Raul, Tom, KL7Q in AL, gave me a call as he indicated he would be listening in on my schedule with Raul. He gave me a report to complete my AL needs, I have worked Tom on all five bands. To summarize, 40, 20 and 15 were fairly routine, 80 meters difficult for Q's with East Coast Stations and on 10 meters, difficult to W7's. Wire antennas were used on all bands. A forty meter Delta Loop with apex at 60 feet and a 80/40 meter trap dipole flat top at 50 feet broadside N/S. The Delta Loop was used on all Bands 80-10 and was much quieter on Receive on 80 than the Dipole and it transmitted a fair signal. Without the 40 meter Delta Loop, I don't think I could have completed all the EastCoast states on 80 meters. Equipment Used for this effort, OMNI VI plus, Alpha 89, DXP38, MMTTY/FSK, WF1B. Power level from 100-1000 watts at various times. Once again, Many thanks to all those who participated and were there for me.
