Point-Counterpoint:
DX Operators DXing Brings Me Closer to the World's People!
Ever since I obtained my ham radio license my primary desire was to talk to people in foreign countries. We hams refer to this activity as DXing and it is without question, the noblest achievement to which an amateur can aspire. Ham Radio provides me with the opportunity to learn about different countries directly from actual residents. We can spend hours talking over issues that are important to each other. I believe that I provide a service to foreign amateurs who may otherwise have no way to have their opinions known to the common American. My station is designed with the latest state-of-the-art radio equipment. My station's computer monitors systems that alert me whenever a DX country is on the air. I have my radio room specially wired with 440 volt 3-phase AC circuits to power a water-cooled, commercial RF amplifier which assures that my signal will get through to the DX under any condition. My neighbors all kid each other that they can tell when I am "on the air" because their home lights all dim and their televisions start smoking. What a bunch of jokers! I'm always anxious to share my experiences of DX conversations with other American hams. I collect cards from every country that I talk with, and keep them safely filed in custom made, display books. I am near the top of the DX "Honor Roll" but there are still a couple countries I need to get a card from. Whenever they do get on the air, no matter what I'm doing at the time, I'll rush to the radio and snag that "new one!" When I finally get those last cards, I'll enjoy taking them to meetings and showing them to all the other amateurs in attendance, who simply don't have the expertise and skill sets required to be a great DX operator - like me!
