Col. Thomas Hill Watts

In this photograph taken by Brady Studios, Tom Watts looks to be about 35 or 40, the age he would have organized the 17th Alabama Regiment and became its first Colonel. His unit saw some action at the bombardment of Pensacola and later was transferred to northern Mississippi to repulse the Federal forces gathering near Corinth. He never did see action at Shiloh, since he was appointed Attorney General shortly before the great battle, but his unit did.
