Digital Services

Beside the traditional Optical Services, we now offer a wide variety of Digital Services as well. New services include scan film to CD, *print-to-CD, *print-to-print, print with more borders options, machine print up to 12x36, print from digital media and CD, and digital retouching.

COLOR PRINT

We can now print your photos from your SD/MMC, Compact Flash, Smart Media, Memory Stick, xD, Zip, Floppy, Flash Drive, CD, DVD, Print, Slide, and FILM!

By default, we always do color and density corrections each and every one of your photos to bring out the true-to-life color. However, you can also request NOT to have any corrections done to your prints. This option is only useful when your home computer has been calibrated to match OUR print production, and you would like to keep the color and density of your photo like what you see on your monitor.

With prints from digital media, you will need Digital Services. But WHY do you need Digital Services when you print from FILM?

You can digitize your images onto CD while having your photos printed at the same time.
With the integrated Digital ICE technology, your images will be dust and scratch free.
When you use our Digital Services, there is NO extra charge for having borders on your prints (Optical prints do cost extra for having white borders)
With Digital Services, we can now adjust the overall contrast, highlight contrast, shadow contrast, color saturation, grain reduction, sharpness, red eye reduction, rotation and cropping on the fly. This is the kind of flexibility that Optical Services will never have! This translates into better control over the printing quality.
With all the benefits of printing Film with Digital Services, your prints will still look just like an Optical Print. Many professionals cannot tell the difference between digital and optical prints from Film.
Now you can have your photo printed bigger than an 8x12 (up to 12x36) without paying the cost of Optical Custom Print.

BLACK AND WHITE / SEPIA PRINTS

With Digital Services, we can now get a very neutral Black and White print on color paper. This is something that Optical Services can never achieve.

Since the Digital Black and White technology is used on color paper, we can also print Sepia prints. However, the draw back of Digital Services is that the Sepia prints can NEVER look as good as Optical prints. Therefore, Digital Sepia print is ONLY recommended when you want to print from digital media.

So, what to do if you still want to have Digital Sepia prints from Film? We DO NOT recommend printing Digital Sepia from Real Black and White film because the result is far worse than Optical print. However, if you use Kodak TMax CN, Kodak Portra BW, or any Monochromic film; then your Digital Sepia prints will look very close to Optical Sepia prints.

Digital ICE technology (the dust and scratch free technology) is ONLY available for Color and Monochromic film.

SCAN TO CD

Digitizing your images is now easier than ever. We can scan your negatives, slides, and prints to CD. Standard scanning resolution is approximately 6.3 megapixel (2048 x 3098), but you can also choose to scan your images between 1.5 megapixel (1024 x 1544) and 26.4 megapixel (4181 x 6305). With the new Digital ICE technology, your images will be scratch and dust free. Images will be scanned and saved with the least compression JPEG format by default. TIFF and other file formats are also available upon request with additional costs.

When you have a whole roll of negative scanned, we will number each image with the corresponding twin check (or specified roll number) and negative number by default. We will also set the correct rotation for each image. However, pick-and-choose-to-scan images will NOT be numbered with the corresponding negative number.

Our standard scanning dpi is 72, but you can easily change them to whatever dpi you wish with your photo editing software. Other scanning dpi is available upon request with an additional cost.

The number of rolls that can be put onto a CD varies, depending on the image resolution and file sizes. Please refer to the FAQ section for information about file size and resolution.

DIGITAL RETOUCHING

Digital retouching is now available. We have extensive digital retouching experience, and this makes photo retouching and manipulation better than ever. Whether you just want to remove some facial fine lines, completely remove or add in someone to a photo, custom photo manipulation, or have your old photo restored; we can help! We will give you a high resolution JPEG file on CD as deliverable. TIFF file is also available upon request. Minimum work is 15 minutes.

PRINT TO PRINT

The old copy-negative service is now replaced by Print-to-CD and Print-to-Print services. With the new Print-to-CD and Print-to-Print technology, your second generation image will look nearly identical to your original image. No more color shift and contrast shift from the old copy-negative duplication process.

FTP TO PRINT

Printing your digital images is getting easier! We now have a FTP server setup. You can simply upload your images onto our FTP server; we will give you a call with an estimated deliverable date once we receive it.

RAW CONVERSION

If you shoot raw files for your projects, you could be overwhelmed with your workflow. We can help you save time. We can convert your raw files to psd, tiff or jpg. We also do color and density corrections at very affordable prices. Please check our price list or contact us for more details.

** Digital ICE technology is not available for Black & White, single-cut 35mm negative, single-cut 35mm unmounted slide, 4X5 negative and slide, and print scan.
