-COLOR PRINT-

What is a good color print?  Look at the skin tone and object with white color in the photo.  We print for healthy and warm color skin tone.  Whenever the object is not a person, we try to go for one or more object with white color in the photo.  When the object is white, it should look white on the photo, not green, red or anything else.

If you had your photos done somewhere else and think the color looks different from what you remember, bring us your print and your negative.  We can show you what can be improved for your photos.

-SEPIA PRINT-

One of our specialties is sepia brown tone prints from black and white and monochromic negative.  The kind of sepia print we do is only an imitation.  Real sepia print is done by printing a black and white photo and tint it with sepia tone chemical in a black and white lab.  Thanks to the color printing technology, we can now imitate the sepia brown tone effect by printing black and white negative onto color paper.  With extensive color adjustment, the print will come out looking similar to a sepia print.

Color consistency will be a challenge depending on the type of negative we print from.  The color of our sepia print through out the whole roll will not be 100% consistence due to many factors.  They include color paper emulsion change, chemical temperature fluctuation, chemical concentration, exposure of each individual frame, the kind of black and white film, etc.  However, we always try our best to match each print within a roll to keep them as consistence as possible.

For tips on how to choose a black and white film for sepia print, please refer to our FAQ / TIPS section.

Straight Black and White print can only be done digitally.  Please refer to the Digital Services section for more information.

-CROSS PROCESS-

Cross process is a common process that gives photos a new and unusual look.  This special effect is very popular for fashion photography, rock album cover, or simply anything experimental.  The way it works is that you shoot a roll of slide film (E-6 ONLY, Kodakchrome K-14 will not work) and process it in C-41 chemical.  Depending on which slide film you use, each film has its own unique color.  In general, the characteristic of cross process is very high contrast and punchy.  Color print with a moderate to heavy green tint and strong color shift.  Since the color of the print depends on the type of slide film being used, there is no standard color and normal color.  However, we try to adjust the color toward the normal side of the color spectrum.  You can also request to have NO color correction be done to your cross processed prints.

Please allow extra time for cross process printing.

-PRINT WITH BORDERS-

Beside the normal full bleed, we also offer print with white borders.  Border option is available for print from 35mm negative in any size and finish EXCEPT wallet size.  It is not yet available for other film formats.

There will be an extra per-print charge for border option.  Please refer to the price list for detail.

If you want more border options and/or borders on prints from medium format and wallet size, please visit our Digital Services section for more detail.

-CUSTOM PRINT-

Beside machine prints, we also offer custom prints by hand.  When your photo needs special croppings, dodge and burn; custom prints is the best way to go.  We pay close attention to detail in the darkroom while making your print.  With custom prints, we have more flexibility in controling the color, density, and other details that can enhance your print.

Since custom prints are all printed by hand, it requires longer time than machine prints.  Please call for turn around time.
