Welcome to Pure Excitement Comics, the number one source for original Golden Age comic book reprints on the Web!

It's finally here -- the over-sized 25th spectacular issue of Pure Excitement Comics! In celebration of this milestone, I am reprinting five stories this month rather than the usual three.
Kicking off the issue is Yankee Boy, from Dynamic Comics no. 19, published in July of 1946 by Harry A. Chesler, Jr. Publications, Inc. Yankee Boy appeared in Dynamic Comics nos. 8-12 and 16-22, as well as Yankee Comics 2-4.
The second feature this month is the Grim Reaper in a story from Wonder Comics no. 16, published in February of 1948 by Better Publications, Inc. The Grim Reaper appeared in Wonder Comics 1-17, The Fighting Yank 6 and 9 and America's Biggest Comics Book. For some reason, the pages are mis-numbered in this story, even tho' it is complete. It starts on page 2...weird! Maybe the story was shortened just prior to publication with some creative cutting and pasting!
The third story this month features Airmale, along with his sidekick (not in costume here) Stampy, from Prize Comics no. 40 (published in March of 1944 by Feature Publications, Inc.). Airmale appeared in Prize Comics 34-43, Snappy Comics no. 1, and Atomic Bomb no. 1.
The fourth story stars the Unknown Solider in a tale from Four Favorites no. 20 (published in November of 1945 by Ace Books, Inc.). The Unknown Soldier appeared in Our Flag Comics 1-5 and Four Favorites 4-20.
In the final slot this month are Nightmare and Sleepy from Clue Comics no. 11, which was published in December of 1946 by Hillman Periodicals, Inc. This is an example of the main character in his later costume. His first costume was dark blue with a full-body skeleton design on it...very cool! Nightmare and Sleepy appeared in Clue Comics 1-12 and volume 2 nos. 1-2 (no Sleepy in volume 2).
Before you start reading, let me just mention once again that both my CD-ROMs are still available. More information about the CDs, which cost a mere $10 each (shipped) and feature higher-quality scans, can be found at this link! A third CD-ROM featuring 15 different Golden Age characters, some never before featured on this site, will be available later this month (Sept. 2000). Be sure to check back soon to find out more information.
All stories are believed to be in the public domain*. If you enjoy this issue, be sure to write to let me know (it's also OK to write if you don't like this issue...all feedback is appreciated). You will find a link to my E-mail on the page following the stories or on this page in the column to the left. And be sure to join my mailing list to find out when I update any portion of my web site!
   * All stories are over 50 years old and believed to be in the public domain. Should a story appear which is not in the public domain and the holder of the copyright is opposed to its inclusion in Pure Excitement Comics, it will be immediately removed from this site upon notification. Pure Excitement Comics does not claim the copyright to any of these stories or characters. Information for this page was found in Howard Keltner's Index to Golden Age Comic Books.
