OUR SHIH TZU BREEDING HISTORY

We started breeding about nine years ago.  My wife is a retired nurse and needed something to care for.  We both love Shih Tzu's and believe they help people in many ways so it was easy to decide which breed we wanted to live with.  Shih Tzu's were bred for their personality to please a Tibetian Queen.  Ever since then they have spread love and smiles all over the world.  Here are a few that we have known and loved.

Cullen's King Arthur

This is our first Shih Tzu. We bought him in a pet store in 1996 for $700 (which was a lot of money back then). He had champion pedigree but not for the last two generations. He was full AKC. We had him DNA certified with AKC as a pure Shih Tzu and he sired about 5 litters before he retired. He was a little on the large size within the breed standard but his personality was Regal."

Cullen's Lady Gadiva

We bought her in the South after driving through dirt roads high up in the mountains and going through a stream with our van.  She was quite the treasure!  She only had one litter due to being too small but she has been a great grandmother to all the other pups we have had.  We keep thinking she will want to rest in her "middle" age, but she jumps in to see and tend to puppies as soon as the mom lets her.  She did however, have our next male, Merlin, Arthur being the sire.

Cullen's Merlin the Magician

We used to love to show off Merlin's trick of sitting up on his heels at rest.  He was a very smart Shih Tzu and melted everyone's heart when they came to pick up puppies.  Sometimes, it seemed he was our biggest salesman.  All our dogs live right alongside us in our home and this great pup stayed real close to my wife until he retired and moved away with Arthur to a wonderful home with lots of play room and no kids.  Merlin was tested and certified DNA Shih Tzu with AKC.  Again, he was on the larger side of Shih Tzu and we decided it was better to let him go with some friends of ours instead of breeding any longer.

Cullen's Panda Bear

Panda was bought from a breeder closer to home.  She was a wonderful mom and had several litters before she was hit by a car.  This was the first pup we had lost and it tore our family up.  She gave several litters and without her, we would never had been able to buy the house we live in now.  We are all so grateful to have known and loved her.
