You can never learn too much about current happenings in the world!  It is really important to stay up to date on things that are currently going on because they just may affect your life!

I believe to understand the way our current society operates, students must understand history that is taking place all around them, all the time!  With that, we will be discussing current events often in class and you will be required to complete a two paragraph, handwritten in ink, summary on an international news article that deals with history, government, economy, or geography, and share it with the class every week.

Current Event Assignment Requirements

Pick an international news article from a newspaper, magazine, or online source (below headlines are from USA Today) that deals with government, history, geography, or economics.  (No sports, entertainment, or advertisements!)

On lined paper, neatly handwrite a two paragraph summary of your article, in ink.  The first paragraph is no less than 100 words summarizing the article in your own words!  The second paragraph is no less than 50 words and explains how the article is important to you and affects or could affect your life.

Attach the complete article neatly to your paper.  Make sure your cutout is neat!

You will be expected to share your story with the class, locate the event on a world map, and tell us how the article affects us here in Mt. Juliet.

Things to remember:

Pick an article that you enjoy and can summarize in 100 of your own words! Do not plagiarize!

Make sure to include key people, events, and locations in your summary.

Make sure it is neat, handwritten, in ink, and that the article is neatly cut out and attached to your paper.
