Roundtrip

Tara Deal

Traveling, like love,
fills a void that no one knew
existed until it has been
visited. The oasis
shifts, sways like palms on the edge
of the Sahara
or the Mojave.
What’s the difference
in the desert when we’re too civilized
to know what the stars might mean,
their degrees of brightness seeming to be
only light?
