Kid's Cotton Lid with Rolled Brim
Fits ages 6 - 8 years

Lionbrand Cotton - worsted weight, one main color & one contrast color – approx. 3 oz. total; great for using up odd bits of yarn
Size 11 - 16" circular needles
Size 8 - 16" circular needles
Size 8 double pointed needles
Tapestry needle
Measuring tape
Scissors
Abbreviations:
CO – Cast on st (s) – stitch (es)
BO – Bind off dec – decrease
K – Knit rep – repeat
P – Purl
CO 80 sts onto size 11 needles, join being careful not to twist & place marker. K first row, then switch to size 8 needles & K 8 more rows – 9 total. Switch to contrast color, & P next row, then continue alternating rows with K & P making the next 8 rows in Garter st. End with a K row - switch back to main color, P one row, then K until piece measures 6 inches from first row.
Decrease as follows, switching to double points when needed:
Row 1- K2tog, K8, rep around.
Row 2 & all even rows - K.
Row 3 - K2tog, K7, rep around.
Row 5- K2tog, K6, rep around.
Repeat in this pattern until 16 sts remain. K2tog until 4 sts left, cut yarn leaving about 5 " or so, thread onto tapestry needle & run through remaining sts. Tie off & weave in ends.
Options: Use a different stitch for stripe, such as seed stitch, or add extra stripes in different colors.
