Installation of an Aeroforcetech Interceptor Scan Gauge:
| First a look at the few things you will need.. | |
| The Aeroforcetech Interceptor Scan gauge. I choose the black face, red display unit that is available at www.pfyc.com. | Thus "Furniture hole cover" will serve as a trim piece to later cover your installation mistakes. |

Originally the Scan Gauge was Plug-N-Play, however some issues regarding battery drain have arisen so the folks at Aeroforcetech have altered their wiring harness. This harness plugs into the OBD2 data port under your dash and then it plugs into the back of your gauge. The extra wire is be hooked up to a 12 Volt power source that is energized with the Ignition of the car.

A scan of the provided Addendum not found in the online manual. |
| First we start by removing this plastic side panel, be prying under the lower lip with a flat blade screw driver. | This side panel is held in by three clips. |
| With the panel removed, unscrew the two screws found here. | You can now, Pull the vent assembly from the dash. |
| As you can see the vent assembly has two of the clips just like the side panel. | |
| To remove the Vent Ball sub-assembly from the front panel, pry gently on the four (2 on each side) "larger" tabs found here (Green), and release the sub-assembly. At this time do not pry on the smaller black tabs (red). | |
| Sub-assembly removed. | |
| To remove the Vent Ball retainer from the Sub-assembly, pry gently on the four tabs found here (Green), and remove the retainer | |
| The Vent Ball will now come out. | Next gently flex and remove the Vent Ball ring. |
| The Vent Ball itself is actually two halves. Take your time and slowly and gently pry on the delicate side release tabs of the Vent Ball, and seperate it into the two halves. | |
| Next you need to find a quite place that is outside where you can do some serious "Dremel tool hacking". You SHOULD wear eye protection and light gloves, because hot melted plastic will be all over you at the end of the following procedures. | |
| With the Dremel tool, some cutting discs and sanding cylinders. Carefully remove the Vent fins from both halves. And on occasion sizing them with your gauge. (Yes, this process can take up to an hour.) | A finished Vent ball half. |
| Take the "furniture hole cover" and cut it off at the red line and discard the yellow portion. | "Furniture hole cover" ring |
| Slowly and carfully sand away the inner portion of the "Furniture Hole Cover" ring until it slides all the way up onto the gauge. | |
| With the "Funiture Hole Cover" ring already on the gauge, Wrap the gauge with electrical tape until the Vent Ball Halve fits very snugly down upon it. The tape is the"Wedge" that holds it in. | |
| Attach the second Vent Ball Halve to the assembly, and your gauge should look as this. | |
| Re-assemble the vent assembly. As you are doing so, you may want to pay close attention to how your finished gauge will rotate in the "vent" and adjust the pivot and placement of the gauge in the Vent Ball as needed. | |
| Drill and Dremel a hole large enough to feed the gauge wire and connector thru the vent duct. | |

|
| Route the gauge wire to the OBD2 Data connector under the dash. Make sure to leave enough slack to allow the data plug to be removed. I advise to keep it unplugged until you have completed your power source hookup. Nobody wants to fry their PCM. | I got my 12 Volt Power lead from the RAP power source that I used in the previous install of my Subwoofer and my XM-Radio. |
| Stuff some insulation into the vent duct to protect the gauge as instructed by manual. | Plug the connector into the back of the gauge. Do a final check of everything before you start the car. The gauge may take up to 30 sec. after ignition to activate. |
| Re-install the Vent Assembly and Plastic side panel. And it should look like this. | A close-up view. |
| Another close-up view. | Another close-up night view. |
| All Done!! | |
| A wider night view. | |

SOME ADVICE:
1. Don't attempt to do this install without using eye protection and gloves as mentioned above. The little black plastic dust wizzing by your head is hot and can sting like an angry bee. 2. A Dremel tool or similiar is a must. Cutting the Vent fins out with a hand tool, could possible crack your "Vent Ball". 3. There is still a "reflective" glare issue, upon the face of the gauge. I am looking into some possible fixes for this. <<UPDATE 7-1-06: I found just modifying my mount and allowing more gauge rotation fixed this. 4. Also if you ever intend
to remove the gauge, and going back to the factory look. You will need
to order the following part from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com,
You can not get the ball alone, only this assembly. 5. Set aside a day when you can take your time and do this right. It took me about 4 hours to do the entire install. |
