The Theodore Roosevelt Association has a long and storied history.  The Association was founded in 1919 and chartered by Congress in 1920 to preserve the memory and ideals of the 26th President of the United States.  Theodore Roosevelt was so much more than a president, and so it seems fitting that the TRA, dedicated to his memory, also has a wide variety of activities.  The programs and activities of the TRA range from the prestigious TRA Police Awards, given in New York, Dallas, Boston, and other cities to police officers who have overcome handicaps and continue to render outstanding service, to the nationwide Teddy Bear program for hospitalized children during the December holiday season.  The TRA conducts many historical and educational programs, such as essay and public speaking contests for students, and supports many public activities and memorials dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt.  At various times, the TRA has been the owner of several important historic sites including Sagamore Hill, the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace, and Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington, D.C.  Through the years, these sites have been bestowed to the American people by the Association and are now operated for the public benefit by the National Park Service.

Each year the TRA has a national convention with past annual affairs at Theodore Roosevelt significant sites including the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, the Roosevelt Study Center in the Netherlands, Sagamore Hill, and the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace in New York City.  One of our future goals as a chapter will be to host a national meeting in the majesty of the Pacific Northwest so representative of the responsible management of our national resources espoused by Theodore Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt as the 26th president of the United States arguably had the most influence of any individual on the moral responsibility of Americans in husbanding our nation’s natural resources and as role models of freedom throughout the world.  We hope that you agree that furthering his legacy should be a part of our community and look forward to your joining us on  this worthy endeavor.
