BLACK SHEEP BOOKS -- A small UBS in the Mandarin neighborhood, Black Sheep is run by Charles Hack, a knowledgeable young man with good taste in music. From Chuck himself: "If I had to say anything about the store, it's that we try to cram in as many interesting and unusual books our shop as possible. We'll never be as big as a Chamblins, so I want to make it up by offering interesting books at reasonable prices. And I'm always working hard to go out and find more. We've got everything from First editions of Hemingway and Steinbeck, to the most current paperback mysteries, romance and Science fiction and even children's books. For me though, the real fun is the history books. Whether it's Ancient archaeology, modern wars or anything in between, I love it all."

BOB'S BACKWATER BOOKSTORE -- Bob is retiring! The store is closing, the property is up for sale! This is a loss to Orange Park and to northeast Florida! But good luck in your retirement, Bob! Have fun!

CHAMBLIN BOOKMINE -- The largest and most comprehensive among Jacksonville's UBSs, Chamblin Bookmine houses thousands upon thousands of books on every subject in the Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress classification systems. The majority of the books at Chamblin's are used, though there are also some new books in the stacks. Strong point: variety and depth. (Member: Florida Antiquarian Booksellers Association) 4551 Roosevelt Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32210 - (904)384-1685 [Note: coming FROM the south, up Roosevelt Blvd., there is a trick to it. You cross the Ortega River bridge, turn right at the next light, and right again (an immediate right) at the Bank of America. Drive past the Bank of America to the grey building -- that's Chamblin's.]

JERRY'S BOOKSHOP -- If you want to talk (and read) science fiction, or are looking for science fiction first editions, Jerry Corder is the man to see. He knows his books and he knows his s-f, and is a delight to talk to -- he tells it like it is. Located in the Town & Country Shopping Center, 917 University Blvd. N., Jacksonville, Florida 32211 - (904) 745-1600

SAN MARCO BOOKSTORE -- On the southside, in the renovated San Marco shopping district (near where I grew up) is this small but well-stocked shop. The proprietor is a bookman, and you can find interesting first editions and rare editions here. He also has record albums (real vinyls!) Very strong on Floridiana. (Member: Florida Antiquarian Booksellers Association) 1971 San Marco Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207 - (904) 396-7597.

TAPPIN BOOKMINE -- Of all the used book store owners, Doug Tappin is possibly the most knowledgeable bookman. His book store covers all categories, but he has some wonderful and rare editions, first editions, and other incunabula. He does book searches, and carries some new books. Strong point: Doug's vast knowledge. (Member: Florida Antiquarian Booksellers Association) 705 Atlantic Blvd., Atlantic Beach, Florida 32233 - (904) 246-1388
