Our mission

Believing that men of like attainment and of the same ideals of fellowship, scholarship, and manhood should bind themselves together in order to approach these ideals. We have banded ourselves together under the name Omega Psi Phi. The motto of the fraternity, "Friendship is essential to the soul," involves a truth which becomes more apparent to us as the years add themselves. The cardinal principles of the fraternity are manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift.

A profile

In January of 1923, S. J. Lewis, Justin Carter, George Bowler, Frank Jefferson, M. H. Layton, and S. F. Riley formed our beloved chapter. Meetings were initially held at each brothers home.

Growing in size and scope over the ensuing three-quarters of a century, Kappa Omega underwent numerous relocations ranging from the Harrisburg to Steelton to Middletown to the John Heinz Senior Citizens Center to the Police athletic League (PAL) Building and finally to our permanent home base the former Pleasantview Firehouse at 2020 State Street. Our current home which was purchased in 1983 and underwent major renovations in 1997.

Kappa Omega has forged a solid record of community involvement and leadership. We sponsor and support : scholarships to graduating seniors in the Harrisburg and metropolitan areas, a Little League Baseball team, a Summer League Basketball Team, food baskets to needy families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, mentoring activities with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and administered an Assault On Illiteracy program which was funded by the Commonwealth of PA.

Kappa Omega has a rich storied history within our fraternity. Brother Terrell Paris, our current Grand Keeper or Records and Seals, was made here. John W. Maloney III, former Second District Representative calls Kappa Omega his home.

Kappa Omega is also responsible for the Ernest E. Just stamp.

We meet on the 1st Saturday of every month with the exceptions of May (when we move to the 2nd week to accomodate the 2nd District Conferenece), and July and August (no meetings for summer break).
