About the Jacks & Jills
Once upon a time, most of the square dance clubs in Washington operated with a closed format and had a waiting list to join. This was because there were more dancers and fewer clubs and floor space was at a premium. As the number of clubs grew, the average size of the clubs shrank a bit and many clubs went to the open format to attract more dancers. The Jacks and Jills have been fortunate to maintain a healthy membership since the early 1960s. Thus we never needed to change our format and are one of only a few "closed" clubs left today.
We love to have guests as much as any club, but not for your money! Gests are free at our club. So why would anyone join if they could come for free? Well, here is how it works. Guests are invited to come for a visit. The Club membership invites the guests to come back as a guest of the club. If the guest comes back that second time, they may then be invited to join the club. If they choose not to join, they may repeat the process the next semester. Most folks who come for a second time do end up joining our club. And that's how we have maintained a strong membership for nearly 40 years. "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"
