Homes
for the Brave, under
the direction of ABRI (Applied Behavioral Rehabilitation
Institute, Inc.) is a 501 © (3) non-profit organization
that provides homeless male veterans with transitional
housing, vocational and case management services. Their
mission is to enable their residents to return to an
independent, productive and meaningful life.
The 42 bed facility, located in Bridgeport, is open
to homeless male veterans through
out
Connecticut. Since
its opening in 2002, it has served over 750 men.
While at Homes
for the Brave, residents are assigned to one of three
full-time Case Managers who work to establish goals in the
areas of housing, employment and self-determination.
In addition, classes in living skills, pre-employment
and computers are offered..
The average length of stay is 6 to 9 months at which
time the residents leave for permanent housing and
employment. The maximum length of stay is two years. The
staff is dedicated to help our Veterans resume productive
lives.
The
needs of our Veterans are ever growing. In the U.S., I out
of every 3 homeless men is a Veteran.
In CT, Veterans represent 20% of our chronic homeless
population. With
our support, Homes for the Brave can continue to reach out and work to improve
the lives and future of our Veterans.

How
can GFWC/CT clubs help?
Homes for the Brave and its residents can be
supported in many ways: by outreaching to other homeless
veterans throughout the state through your community or
local Vet OASIS centers, making monetary donations,
providing dinners, sharing skills, creating “welcoming
packages” to new residents, donating gift certificates,
and collecting needed goods.
A schedule for the collection of these items is
planned in conjunction with GFWC/CT meetings.
GFWC/CT has a proud tradition of supporting our
Veterans. Those
at Homes for the Brave
are among out neediest and your support will be most valued.
