Department of Public Health (CT) Fish Food Safety
Consumption of certain kinds of large, salt-water predator fish should be avoided entirely by pregnant women, women who wish to become pregnant, and young children because of the concerns re mercury contamination.  Certain freshwater fishing areas are contaminated with polychlorinated biphenols and fish from these areas should be avoided as well.  Shellfish are *not* a problem re this issue, although may, of course, transmit hepatitis.
