Alumni Weekend 2007:

First of all, let me say a hearty "THANK YOU" to Jack Casey for being instrumental in organizing and including WECB as part of

Alumni Weekend 2007.   We missed our 50th anniversary, but thanks to Jack, we were warmly welcomed at our 60th.

Having a WECB alumni as GM of WERS and faculty advisor for WECB is invaluable to our future.

It was SO very good to see my long lost friends at our WECB 60th anniversary lunch.  It was truly a sight for sore eyes!

I can honestly say that you are ALL part of my extended family.  Some people I have not seen in 22 years while others I've just met.

Being surrounded by educated people with the same passion for quality and artistic ability made me feel right at home.

With so many "sheep" in this world, it was good once again to be considered among the "movers and shakers".

Here are but a few candid pictures taken at our lunch. (Click on the picture to see it in full size)

IF YOU HAVE PICTURES FROM OUR LUNCH, PLEASE EMAIL THEM TO ME SO I CAN POST THEM HERE.

I welcome your stories from all 60 years of our history to be included in this web page.   It only takes minutes to jot a few thoughts down and email them to me.

Let's work together so that this site grows to encompass our ENTIRE history!

Its Charlie Fierstein Class of 89 here. I was shocked to see pics of myself on the WECB reunion page!
I am married and living in London England I have 3 Daughters and am still in Radio! I've been working at a digital radio station called Total Rock. I also compere and do voice-overs as well. I have been in the UK for 11 Years now. I will have a dig in my archives and look for some air checks and pics fore the site.
I was working with Fil Kovisars at Rock 101 in Manchester NH for about 3 years after I was fired I was living in metro West ie. Natick Mass. Then I got in contact with an old girlfriend from England. Needless to say, that was 12 Years ago and we have now been married for 10 years and have 3 beautiful daughters, Cassandra who is 6, Amber who is 3 And Roxy who just turned a year last month.   I have been working on and off in radio here in the Uk.  My latest gig was at Totalrock.com which is an internet station and also broadcasts all across Europe on digital TV.

Radio in the UK is F***ked!!! You have two choices the BBC or commercial radio. There is very little rock & metal radio in Europe at all. I took the gig at totalrock and after 4 years as a presenter and head of sales I was laid off. I still present a show there on occasion but not as regularly as I would like to.  I also worked at 2 other commercial stations Spectrum radio which was a block format like WERS and Liberty Radio which isn't in existence any more cause they lost their license.   I am also doing freelance voice-over work, as will as DJ-ing at clubs and comparing bike rallies.

As I mentioned before I have a website at www.rockandrollponderosa.com and I am busy looking after my 3 girls! I'm sure God is punishing me for being such a dirt bag in my past life.  I hope to hear from fellow ECB'ers even though I was more involved at WERS in my last 2 years at Emerson I still have WECB to thank for giving me my start.

My website is www.rockandrollponderosa.com and my e-mail is Loudponderosa@hotmail.com

I hope all is well and its cool to see that WECB has spread over the ocean to England.
I look forward to hearing from you!!

Hey Greg - -

Just out there surfing the net and came across your website! What a fun trip down memory lane - - it's sure been a long time since our days at WECB!!! I don't know if you remember me - - I was at WECB as the traffic director and on-air personality in 83 and 84. (I think I have those dates right - - it's been a long time! haha) Had a lot of fun during my time at the station and sure would love to hear you or others who were around during that time!

Lots has changed in the almost 20 years since we left at Emerson - can it really be that long ago?? Yikes!!! I spent many years working in marketing and pr, and am now the director of continuing legal education for a local bar association. Never a dull moment working here! Have been married for 19 years - no kids - and have been living in Ohio for most of that time. I get back to Boston a couple of times a year.

Anyway - thanks for the cool website! Would love to hear from you or others from the station. Hope all is well with you!

Hi Greg,

How are you? Your site is really cool. I got an email from Dan Guss who got an eamil from Ben Mayberry and I landed here. That's so cool that you put together a place for other "WECB'ers" to hook up. Thanks for the mention on the video page. I must say I hadn't seen that video since I did it many years ago and it was fun to see the station and people. I got a kick out of the way you "posted it" on the web via old fashioned film chain style technology...a kinescope.

I'm currently living in Sherman Oaks California and have been living in LA for 16 years now, I can't believe I've been here that long. I'm a Re-Recording Mixer on a mixing stage in Burbank mixing long form episodic television shows. What the hell does all that gibberish and doublespeak mean? I mix the audio (dialogue and music) for tv shows in post. You know that old expression, "We'll fix in post" or "We'll fix it in the mix"?  That's what I'm doing.

I'm currently mixing "JAG" and "Navy: NCIS" for Don Bellisario Productions but did the first season of "CSI" before I jumped ship and went to work at a different post house. As for "Navy: NCIS", I'm glad to hear it's your favorite show.   I'll ask the producer to get you a signed photo of Sasha Alexander and by the way she looks even better in person.  I know the music in Abby's lab is played way to loud but that's what Don Bellisario wants. He's a trifle deaf from some old war wound. He too is an ex-marine. We mix that show in three days (really two days of mixing and one day of fixing). The same applies for "JAG". I like doing "Navy:NCIS" more than "JAG" because it's newer, fresher and the stories are more plausible. Hopefully there will be an improvement in the production dialog track this season due to a new production sound mixer coming on-board. In defense of last season's mixer, the production track was done solely with RF lav mics due to the nature of how they shoot the show. They film with four cameras hot at all times to give the editors plenty of cutting options especially with those jump cuts. If you visited LA I'd take you to the sets which are really cool. The aircraft carrier (re-dressed) from "JAG" looks very real on TV but is very cool in person the way it blends into the soundstage. Metal is really made of wood in some of the set pieces. I add some cold reverb on Ducky's voice in the morgue to give it a senses of space and make it sound cold and a little uncomfortable. Ross (my effects mixer/partner) adds fluorescent hum and some beeps, ventilation hum, etc... It's fun mixing the show and challenging at the same time because they often go to many locations some of which are practical sets.

So basically, (a word that Russ used to love to use) I'm doing the same thing I did at school just different product. Radio was an excellent training ground for what I do.  As Russ said in his "memo" posted on your site, it was great to have been from a time when we used razor blades and splicing blocks instead of digital audio workstations like ProTools. These kids have it so easy huh?

I've been married to my wife Diana for 9 years and have a 2 3/4 year old son named James. What's up with you? What are you up to? Where do you live?
Any wife/wives, kids, etc..? I'm going to have to contact Russ, Fil, Fred and others to catch up. Where did the time go? I'm going to have to check my "archives" for any WECB related audio gems such as promos, jingles, airchecks and general stuff such as pictures. Thanks again for doing such a great job compiling all this material and I got a big laugh reading the cartoon I drew of you and Russ so many years ago!

Yours Truly,

Larry Benjamin

I've left the radio world and dove into theatre & film. Acted a little, but focusing now on producing.  Got a Tony Award nomination in 2000 for co-producing Bells Are Ringing, and now working on several new shows for Broadway and my first show as lead producer on a gem of a show called The It Girl for Off-Broadway in the spring. (www.itgirlmusical.com). We'll need to catch up when we get more time to breathe, slick!
Meawhile, a photo of me in front of my theatre from 2000.
