For an issue that nearly went up in smoke, I acted as a reporter.

I wrote two stories on time for the rough draft deadline and the first final deadline. One piece checks up on whether a university task force's recommendations to combat substance abuse on campus were really followed, and the other (text file) looks at which drugs are rising or falling in popularity on campus, according to the police who arrest illegal drug users, and the experts who provide treatment.

When the editor called for more material, I quickly turned around a third story on GUARD Dogs, a student-run effort to provide safe rides to students who may have been drinking.

As part of my reporting, I also provided a significant amount of material in addition to my text stories. I created a Flash slide show using drug and alcohol-related arrest data from the UConn Police, I obtained a digital copy of the university's task force report (pdf) from the president's office, and I took several photos of GUARD Dogs in action, which were used in a slide show.
