As managing editor, I was the chief executive responsible for the content and deadline management of this issue, which featured two sets of deadlines.

For the first deadlines, some of the reporters turned around material on the president's inauguration the same day as the ceremony. Such a quick deadline is unusual for a college class, but we got the work done in a session at the art building, where the computers were accessible until late into the night.

I also wrote the main text article on the ceremony, and produced an audio recording of the entire speech and provided audio of the ceremony's music for use in a slide show.

The second set of stories were more technically challenging, and featured tighter integration of text and video, as well as a Flash slide show, and a timeline.

One reporter for these enterprise stories interviewed key people inside and outside the university on their thoughts about the president's first year in office. The other reporter interviewed the president himself, which took several weeks to set up.
