Walking the abandonded railroad tracks in Chester NJ can be quite the experience. Especially if you're doing so when the sun goes down. Many people have seen strange disembodied lights hoovering in the air from a few feet above the ground to as high as the trees. These lights vary or change in color as they float along. As if they are controlled by some intelligence, they steer away from you as you move towards them.

Some scientists claim to know what these "Earth Lights" are while others say all theories put forth so far fly in the face of Physics as we understand it today. So no matter how smart the person sounds just remember, they don't really know what causes these lights. There has been shows on T.V. that have scenes of men with arc welders shooting sparks across the floor. And others where scientists are crushing quartz to make some sparks. This is where some "scientists" get their explanations from. (Most comments posted in blogs or forums are from average Joes pretending to be someone they're not). The truth is, the lights as they are seen (some as big as basketballs), have never been reproduced or duplicated in a lab.

The story behind the Hookerman sounds like your typical haunting tale. A lonely railroad worker is either killed or looses his arm and dies while trying to save some wayward kids on the tracks. His spirit, unaware it has moved on, wanders the tracks now looking for his arm or just doing what he thinks is still his job keeping his eyes on the tracks. The lights are supposed to be the latern he carries to search the tracks at night.
