"I'm not gay," Angel insisted.

"Of course not," Wesley said.

"I mean, have you ever seen me go out on a date with a guy?" Angel was pacing back and forth, obviously more upset about the situation than he'd previously let on.

"No."

"And just look at all the women!" Angel stopped and held a hand out to Wes imploringly. "Darla, Dru, Buffy..."

"Not to mention all of that unresolved sexual tension with Kate," Wesley pointed out. "And of course your feelings for Cordelia."

"And Faith!"

"You slept with Faith?" Wesley sat up straighter.

"Well no, not exactly," Angel glanced off to the side. "But there was kissing. Plus with the whole... wriggling. And we totally would have."

Wes relaxed a little bit, not sure if Angel had even noticed his reaction. Unsure if it would have even been correctly interpreted. "Of course you would have. The girl has sexual chemistry with a rock."

Angel smiled uncertainly. "A rock?"

"I didn't mean that literally. I just meant... well."

Thankfully, Angel had already moved on. "But anyway... just look at that list of women. I mean, isn't it completely obvious that I'm straighter than a paper clip?"

Wesley lifted an eyebrow.

"You know, after you unbent it," Angel explained. "Is that one of those mixed metaophors?"

"Not exactly."

"So just because other people -- guys -- seem to be all interested in me... that way... doesn't mean that I'm gay."

"You and Spike never...?" Wesley asked delicately.

"Well sure, but you know... vampires. That doesn't count."

"No, of course not."

Angel was pacing again. "Just because there was that naughty touching with Xander... you know, all those looks, and how I got to feel him up that time at the school. But I was just trying to trick Spike! And then with Giles... but that was when I was Angelus."

"So that doesn't count either."

"No!" Angel crossed his arms. "And the thing with Doyle... we were both drunk. It never counts if you're drunk."

Wesley spoke gently. "Angel. Come over here."

Looking sheepish, Angel went.

Wes reached out and put a hand on the vampire's shoulder, their eyes meeting in a look several seconds too long. "It doesn't matter what anyone thinks. If there are people out there who are... petty and narrow-minded enough to believe that we're to be put in rigid boxes, to have our sexuality defined by them as black or white because they're incapable of seeing the gray... that's their problem, not ours."

Angel continued to look into Wes' eyes, his own dark and soulful. "Yeah. Yeah, you're right."

"Good." Wesley pulled back the sheet, exposing his nude body, and shifted over a few more inches. "Now come back to bed."

"Okay," Angel said grouchily, sliding in next to Wesley and pressing against him, then licking Wes' bottom lip. "But I'm not gay."

End.
